Interview of Arzu Huseynova, National Press Secretary of Baku City Circuit (BCC) Operating Company, to Oxu.Az
- What does "Formula 1" bring to Azerbaijan?
- During the race days, thousands of tourists come to Baku, which creates an economic revival in hotels, restaurants, transportation and other service sectors. For example, last year 77% of ticket buyers were foreign tourists. Due to increasing interest, two new stands have been added this year, bringing the total number of stands to 12. Tickets for 9 of them are already completely sold out. In addition, through volunteer programs, hundreds of young people gain international experience, which is very important for their social and professional development.
- Which countries do the most fans come from?
- Most of the spectators come from European countries - especially Great Britain, Germany, Italy, France, Spain and the Netherlands. In addition, many fans from neighboring countries - Turkey and Georgia, as well as from the Middle East, travel to Baku to watch the races. An interesting fact this year is that the first ticket was bought from Austria. In total, tickets have already been sold to more than 100 foreign countries, which shows how much attention the race is attracting on a global scale.
- How is the impact on the environment reduced?
- One of the main goals of "Formula 1" is sustainability and minimizing the impact on the environment. We are also actively working in this direction at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. We have abandoned disposable plastics in the paddock area and replaced them with completely biodegradable alternatives. All event lanyards are made from 100% recycled materials. To prevent plastic waste, two water filling stations have been installed along the boulevard, and spectators are allowed to bring their own thermos or reusable cup. In addition, within the framework of the "Green Post" marshals initiative, the clothing and equipment of our volunteers are made from recycled materials. These projects demonstrate both our compliance with international sustainability goals and our responsible approach to the environment at the local level.
