This year, the 24th World Karting Championship (World Grand Final) competitions were held on the "International South Garda" track in Lonato, Italy.
İdman.Biz reports that the length of the track was 1200 meters in the competitions organized in five categories. The tournament, which has been held since 2001, is considered one of the most prestigious events in the karting world.
607 pilots from different countries of the world participated in the race, which also included European and world champions. Davin Jafarov, one of the three drivers representing Portugal, and at the same time a young talent of Azerbaijani motorsport, also participated in this race, which was held in difficult weather conditions and high competition. He started for the first time in the BMB category and the world championship as part of the BirelArt Portugal team.
Davin, who was forced to start from 32nd place due to a minor accident in the qualifying stage, showed a great performance and advanced to the semi-final and final stages. In the final, he broke the record of 14 overtakes by Italian pilot Lorenzo Pignanelli by making 24 overtakes, and also showed the fastest lap of the race.
This result aroused great interest among commentators and race participants. Davin Jafarov finished eighth in the end.
After the race, pilots and managers of several international teams approached the BirelArt Portugal tent to meet Davin and wish him success in his future career. Among them was the management of AW Racing team located in Milan, Italy. The team offered Davin to join their ranks. However, the young pilot preferred to continue his fight with the BirelArt team for now.
Sharing his thoughts on his performance at the World Championship, the pilot said: "This was my first time participating in such a high-level competition, on this track and in the BMB category. Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to come here and participate in practice sessions before the race. 607 participants from five categories participated in the World Championship. The race was very intense, but I coped with it and advanced to the semi-final stage. However, we had a small incident and chassis problems in the ranking, which forced me to start the race from 32nd place. Nevertheless, I finished the race in eighth place overall by overtaking 24 drivers. It is really difficult to start from very far back on a wet track and achieve this. Therefore, this is a great achievement for me and my team. Many other pilots and team managers approached our tent to meet and talk to me. They were surprised to see an Azerbaijani driver participating at this level for the first time in international karting competitions and demonstrating such a performance. there were world and European champions among the participants, and the weather conditions also made the race very difficult. It was an incredible pride and experience for me to show how strong we are and to represent my country. I am doing my best to prove that Azerbaijan can be at the top of world motorsport and I am even more inspired to see great support from my compatriots."
It should be noted that Davin Jafarov is expected to participate in two more international races by the end of the year.
