Richard Trautmann evaluated the Guba training camp and preparation for the Islamic Games

Richard Trautmann, performance director of the Azerbaijani national judo team and head coach of the men's team, gave an interview to the press service of the Judo Federation.

- What is the main purpose of the training camp organized in Guba?

- After the World Championship, we completed an extensive preparation phase, and rest was important for the athletes. Now, Guba has become the most suitable place to return to form during the long summer period. The weather is very hot in Baku. Changing the location increases the motivation of athletes. The air is clean here, and it is also possible to climb the mountains. The gathering was useful for us.

- Do you focus more on physical or technical-tactical training?

- Our main focus is on physical training. But we are trying to use this time effectively to develop in ne-waza as well. We work a lot in this direction and I can say that our athletes showed themselves well.

- What competitions is the gathering preparing for?

- This is the first stage of our long-term preparation for the Islamic Solidarity Games. Of course, we will also participate in some Grand Prix competitions in this stage. But without special preparation. Our main goal is the Islamic Games. After this gathering, we will continue our training in Baku for another three weeks. Then we will have two weeks of general preparation in Brazil.
