Azerbaijani judoka Hidayat Heydarov has advanced to the semi-finals at the European Championship held in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia.
Idman.Biz reports that the reigning Olympic champion, competing in the 73 kg weight category, defeated Dayyan Boulemtafes, representing France, in the 1/4 finals.
He had previously defeated Konstantinos Tsaparas (Greece) in the 1/16 finals and Dardan Cena (Kosovo) in the 1/8 finals.
It should be noted that two of the seven athletes who joined the competition yesterday - Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg) and Turan Bayramov (66 kg) won bronze medals.
The European Championship will end on April 19.

Idman.Biz reports that Olympic champion Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) will enter the tatami.
He will face Konstantinos Tsaparas (Greece) in the 1/16 finals.
Heydarov can become a 5-time European champion today. He has previously won gold medals at the continental championships in 2017, 2022, 2023 and 2024.
It should be noted that two of the seven Azerbaijani judokas who entered the tatami on the previous day of the competition managed to win medals. Thus, Ahmad Yusifov (60 kg) and Turan Bayramov (66 kg) finished their performances with bronze medals.
