There was very strong competition at the Junior Judo Open European Cup held in Istanbul.
Rustam Alimli, the head coach of the Azerbaijani national team of young men, said this in his statement to "Report".
The expert shared his thoughts on the tournament held in Turkey:
"Athletes from a number of countries of the world participated in the competition. There was very strong competition. This was a chance to test our athletes. Some judokas did not participate in the tournament due to injuries. Aslan Kotsoyev (90 kg) and Nizami Imanov (66 kg), who won gold medals, are our leading athletes. They performed well in their first competition after the injury. Nizami showed himself well in the new weight category. Kotsoyev was also injured for a while."
R.Alimli said that after the European Cup they will participate in an international training camp in Spain:
"After that, we will go to the Open European Cup in Berlin. Then we will determine the team for the European and World Championships. We are satisfied with the overall result. Some of our judokas lost in medal matches. But this is not the end. These are test competitions. They showed themselves well. They will be given another chance."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani team took 4th place in the overall team score among 31 countries with 2 gold and 5 bronze medals, and 2nd place among men.
