Joey Barton, former midfielder for Manchester City, Newcastle, and the England national team, has been arrested on suspicion of attacking a man near a Liverpool golf club.

Barton, 43, and another man were arrested on Sunday, March 9, on suspicion of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm. The alleged victim was taken to hospital with facial and rib injuries. A local resident reported seeing the man lying on the ground in blood and called emergency services.
Barton played for Manchester City, Newcastle, and Rangers. In 2018, he began his coaching career, first with Fleetwood Town and later with Bristol Rovers, where he worked until 2023.
