Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff has urged caution against jumping to conclusions about Andrea Kimi Antonelli's championship prospects, despite an impressive start to the season.
Idman.Biz reports that Wolff believes Antonelli is ready in terms of speed but needs experience.
"In terms of pure speed, he is absolutely ready. There is no question about raw speed, talent, and ability. But he needs experience in everything. It is still too early to compare him to Russell in the context of a championship fight. George has been in Formula 1 for many years; his experience and awareness of the situation are for nine or ten seasons.
I think Kimi is saying, 'I can fight for this.' That's accurate. In terms of dynamics, you can see that George is helping Kimi, supporting him after the Melbourne crash, visiting him in the engineering room. Clearly, there is a hierarchy of greatness and a smaller role, but both are eager to do it," Wolff told Fastest Lap.
