Mercedes driver George Russell commented on Friday's tests at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Idman.biz reports that Russell showed the second result in the second free practice in Baku.
"Friday in Azerbaijan was encouraging for us. We decided to complete the program today only with soft tires, which made it a little difficult to evaluate our car. The circuit is long in Baku, and here, especially in the last sector, the rear tires often suffer. Considering that we are using the softest tires here in a row, we knew that it would be difficult to keep the C6 throughout the attempt. Nevertheless, we finished the day in the top four in both sessions and we know we can do even better. We are also using C5 until the end of the week and we hope this will give us an advantage over our competitors.
We know that a tough fight awaits us with our competitors. "Ferrari" looks great and "McLaren" has not yet shown its true potential. However, if we can achieve today's success, there is no reason why we cannot fight for a place on the podium on race day," the team's press service quoted Russell as saying.
