Peter Bayer, CEO of the Racing Bulls team in Formula 1, has commented on the issue of extending Liam Lawson's contract.
According to Idman.Biz, Bayer believes that Lawson is a good fit for the team.
"We know him from that famous day in Zandvoort (when he replaced Ricciardo). He was already our reserve driver and always fit in well with the team. Frankly, we see his performance stabilising in terms of results and I think that was the most important thing for us. When the decision was made to give him a seat for next year, that was the main factor.
We adapted quickly (after he came from Red Bull) and that is one of our team's strengths. Everyone understands that this can happen. We even pay attention to change during the season as we continue to develop talent. No one panics, no one says "Oh my God! A new pilot". It's always like this for us: "Okay. Let's find a place for Liam and bring him back."
He fits our philosophy well. He has been part of the Red Bull junior program for many years and frankly, he did everything right last year. Despite setbacks and difficulties, when it comes to race pace, he was faster than Isaac (Hajjar) in several races. We need to work on his qualifying pace, but the potential is huge," Bayer told RacingNews365.
