McLaren team boss Andrea Stella spoke admiringly about how young driver Oscar Piastri overcame a nightmare start to the 2026 season.
Idman.Biz reports that the Australian driver experienced a major shock in the first two races of the season. The 24-year-old pilot, who could not even reach the starting line due to an accident in Australia and a technical malfunction in China, surprised everyone, although it was expected that he would be psychologically shaken.
Andrea Stella noted that Piastri turned these difficulties into an opportunity:
"This unfortunate start gave Oscar the opportunity to test his maturity and inner strength. Our team has been impressed by the will he has shown. Such a calm reaction from a pilot who has been out of the fight for two races in a row is an incredible motivation for the whole team. Here we see not only a fast driver, but also a mentally steel-strong character."
It should be reminded that Piastri took second place in Japan, restoring his confidence and giving McLaren their first podium of the current season.
