Oscar Piastri has dismissed claims that technical changes implemented ahead of the new Formula 1 season have caused concerns about the handling of the cars. The increase in the proportion of electrical power in the power units and its equalization with the combustion engine requires new techniques from the drivers.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to RacingNews365 that after the first tests in Barcelona, the young driver said that the new cars still have the spirit of "real Formula 1". Although the main concern was about downshifting the gearbox for energy management, Piastri emphasized that most of these fears have disappeared.
Oscar Piastri noted that the cars are still very fast:
"There are some things we have to get used to, but most of the fears we had before going on track are gone. The qualifying stage may look different, but for fans sitting in the stands, these cars will remain as magnificent and impressive as before. These are still the fastest cars in the world."
It should be reminded that Mercedes driver George Russell also stated that the new gearbox strategy has already become a reality, but it does not feel unnatural.
