The Australian Grand Prix, the opening race of the 2026 Formula 1 season, took place at the "Albert Park" circuit in Melbourne. In a very tense and eventful race, the "Mercedes" team surprised everyone by taking the top two spots.
Idman.Biz reports that the victory was won by British driver George Russell. His young teammate, rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli, crossed the finish line in second place, bringing a double joy to his team. The top three was completed by "Ferrari" driver Charles Leclerc.
Leclerc, who started the race from fourth place, took the lead with a confident attack, but later tactical decisions during the virtual safety car (VSC) did not work in his favor. The "Mercedes" drivers regained the advantage after the pit stop and maintained their positions until the end. "Ferrari"'s other member, Lewis Hamilton, was fourth, and the reigning world champion, Lando Norris ("McLaren"), was fifth.
Max Verstappen made the biggest improvement in the race. Despite starting from 20th place, the Dutch driver of "Red Bull" managed to finish sixth with successive overtakes.
The Grand Prix was also remembered for a number of incidents. "McLaren" driver Oscar Piastri crashed before the start - on the installation lap - and was eliminated from the race. "Audi" representative Nico Hülkenberg was unable to start due to technical problems. During the race, Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll, Isack Hadjar and Sergio Perez dropped out of the fight for various reasons.
