Formula 1 star Max Verstappen has reacted to the technical failure he faced in the GT3 race held on the Nürburgring North Loop (Nordschleife). The problem with the splitter of the "Mercedes" driven by the Dutch driver, who was fighting for victory with his teammate Lucas Auer, forced him to make an early pit stop.
İdman.Biz reports that the failure, which occurred in the 90th minute of the race, came as a surprise to Verstappen. He stated in his statement to "Viaplay" that he did not understand how the incident happened.
"A strong vibration suddenly started on the second lap of my second stint (the period between two pit stops). Then the splitter started clicking loudly and at that moment I felt that it was broken. I hadn't collided with anyone, so I don't know how it happened. Everything is fine with the other "Mercedes", I hope we will find the cause of the problem", - said Verstappen.
Max called the fight he had with Christopher Haase during the race "quite intense":
"I drove my stints well enough. It was very interesting to fight with other GT3 cars and move in heavy traffic. The car felt good, so I'm happy. We have prepared for the 24-hour race as well as we can. I just didn't drive in the dark, but I did start tests in the rain and in different positions".
