"Aston Martin" Formula 1 driver Lance Stroll's return to GT racing after a long break was marked by unexpected penalties.
İdman.Biz reports that Stroll's team, competing in sports car racing for the first time since 2018, received an eight minute and 25 second penalty in the opening round of the GT World Challenge series held at the Circuit Paul Ricard track.
Stroll, driving the Aston Martin GT3 Vantage car with Roberto Meri and Mari Boya in the "Comtoyou Racing" team, finished the race in 48th place with his team.
The distribution of penalties was as follows:
Causing a collision: "stop-and-go" penalty for the accident involving Mari Boya.
Ignoring blue flags: four-minute penalty (Stroll was directly responsible for one minute of this).
Exceeding track limits: three minute and 40 second penalty (Stroll received a 115 second penalty under this clause).
Despite the rule violations, Stroll managed to attract attention with his lap times while on the track and proved that he was one of the fastest drivers. Interestingly, although Stroll's number 18 car was unsuccessful, the number seven team from the same team won the race.
