Former "Formula-1" pilot Antolin Gonzalez has confessed to stabbing his father to death.
Idman.Biz reports, citing 20minutus.es, that the 23-year-old Spanish athlete claims the death was "accidental" during an argument and intends to demand mitigation of the sentence.
The incident occurred on July 5 in a family-owned industrial building on the outskirts of Aranda de Duero. According to the accused, he had a heated argument with his father, during which the man attacked his son with a knife. During the fight, Gonzalez stabbed his father in the neck.
The 56-year-old man died from his injuries. After the incident, Antolin threw the knife away and tried to escape. He was found and arrested by law enforcement.
Gonzalez's family defends him, claiming that the deceased had been systematically violent towards his relatives for years.
Antolin Gonzalez, the vice-champion of "Formula-3" in 2018, ended his career to help his mother's business. According to the family, he wanted to protect his mother from his father and ensure that she was not left without support.
