Cadillac, the new Formula 1 team, has announced the debut date of young driver Colton Herta. The American driver will have his first official test after the championship returns to Europe.
Idman.Biz reports that Herta will participate in the first free practice (FP1) of the Spanish Grand Prix. The California representative, who moved from IndyCar to F2 to score super license points this season, has signed a test pilot contract with Cadillac.
According to reports, Colton will replace the team's main drivers, Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, in a total of four free practice sessions during the year. The timing of the other three appearances will be determined later after his debut in Barcelona. Although Herta has previously participated in tests with McLaren, he has never debuted in an official race weekend.
"I can't wait to get behind the wheel of the Cadillac Formula-1 Team car," said Herta.
It should be noted that due to a change in the calendar, Herta will not be able to participate in this year's Indy 500 race. The F2 Canadian stage, which will be held on May 22-24, coincides with the famous marathon.
