The "Formula 1" track in Baku is challenging, but also one of the fastest on the racing calendar.
Idman.biz reports that this was stated by Stoffel Vandoorne, reserve driver of the "Aston Martin" team, in an interview with journalists.
"Baku is always a special place. I first came here in 2017 when I was racing for McLaren. At that time, hosting the race was a big event for the city. A lot has changed since then: the track and its surroundings have become more modern, dynamic, and even luxurious. It is clear that the city is actively developing and attracting more attention, including from Formula 1 pilots," added the Belgian.
According to Vandoorne, the Baku track has a unique combination of high speed and difficult sections.
"This is one of the fastest street tracks. There are zones where you have to brake at very high speeds, and this requires the driver to be extremely careful and confident in the car," Vandoorne emphasized.
The pilot also stated that the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is often characterized by unexpected events and a lot of overtaking.
"In Baku, we almost always see exciting, eventful races. There is usually more overtaking here than on other street tracks. I think this weekend promises to be interesting too. The weather is a bit cooler than usual this year. Let's see what surprises await us in the race?!" said Vandoorne.
