"Victory" chess tournament dedicated to the Great Return was organized

The State Committee for Affairs of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons held the "Victory" chess tournament among internally displaced schoolchildren dedicated to the Great Return.

Idman.biz reports that more than 60 students from educational institutions of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur participated in the tournament organized in Baku at the "Mamedyarovs" chess school with the support of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation within the framework of the "Year of Constitution and Sovereignty".

At the opening ceremony of the tournament, it was brought to the attention that the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev always cared about the spiritual, physical and intellectual development of the young generation, along with their education. He made important contributions to ensuring the mass character of chess in our country as a special sport that requires broad intelligence, logical thinking, and a healthy mood. Thanks to the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan's chess traditions have been revived, and our athletes have pleased our people by achieving high results. Nasimi Narimanov, advisor to the chairman of the State Committee, said that the Great Return is a large-scale process, and that creating the necessary conditions for the comprehensive development of the young generation returning to their native land is also the focus of attention in this process. It was recalled that chess schools existed in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur in the past, and that these schools continued to operate during the occupation. It was emphasized that the members of the Mamedyarov family, originally from Zangilan district, played an exceptional role in the development of chess in Azerbaijan, won a number of prestigious international competitions, and gratitude was expressed to them for supporting the "Victory" tournament.

It was noted that among the factors that will ensure sustainable settlement in Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur, the effective organization of children's, teenagers' and young people's leisure time, including the creation of opportunities for them to engage in various sports, plays an important role and is considered one of the priorities of the Great Return. At the opening ceremony, the National Anthem was played, and the memory of the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs was honored.

After the seven-round competition, the winners of the first 3 places among boys and girls were determined, they were awarded diplomas, and all participants of the tournament were awarded certificates. International Grandmaster, head of the "Mamedyarovs" chess school, Zeynep Mamedyarova gave a master class to the winners.

At the end of the tournament, a chess competition in an online format was organized between one of the winners and a student of Agali village school of Zangilan region.
