The opening ceremony of the "Sheki Open" tournament was held. Sport24.az reports that the festival, organized by the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, the Sheki City Executive Authority and "Premier School", sponsored by "SOCAR", and partnered by "Sirab", is attended by about 300 chess players from 8 countries.
Chess players compete in groups A and B at the festival. In both groups, the competitions are organized according to the Swiss system, consisting of 9 rounds.
The total prize fund of the competition is 23,450 manats. The winner of group A will win 5,100 manats, and the chess player who takes first place in group B will win 1,000 manats.
The festival also envisages holding blitz and rapid tournaments.
It should be noted that the festival is held within the framework of the Azerbaijan Chess Federation's "Chess Tour Azerbaijan" project. This is the 2nd competition of the project. The competition will end on June 24.
