Nurgul Salimova, one of the world's leading female chess players, recalled her performance at the analogous tournament held in Baku two years ago, on the eve of the World Cup to be held in Batumi.
İdman.biz reports that the Turkish-born Bulgarian representative is considered one of the chess players vying for the title in the competition.
She won a silver medal at the Baku World Cup, losing only in the final to Russian Aleksandra Goryachkina.
Salimova said the following about that competition: "The competition in Baku was important for me. Now I have focused my attention on the World Cup in Batumi and I am ready for new challenges."
It should be noted that four Azerbaijani chess players - Ulviyya Fataliyeva, Gulnar Mammadova, Govhar Beydullayeva and Khanim Balajayeva - will also participate in the World Cup, which will start on July 5 and is a qualifying event for the Candidates Tournament.
