Norwegian grandmaster Magnus Carlsen was the highest-earning chess player of the year in 2025 in terms of prize money.
İdman.Biz reports with reference to the chess.com portal that Carlsen earned a total of approximately $1.5 million (approximately 2,550,000 AZN) during the season.
His biggest earning was $250,000 (approximately 425,000 AZN) for winning the World Cup in cybersports. Chess was included in the tournament program this year.
In December, Carlsen also won the world championships in rapid and blitz chess.
