FIDE has announced the list of chess players who have qualified for the "Grand Swiss" tournament, a part of the FIDE championship cycle.
Idman.biz reports that four Azerbaijani chess players will also participate in this competition, which will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Rauf Mammadov and Eltaj Safarli will compete in the open category, while Gunay Mammadzada will compete among women. In addition, Govhar Beydullayeva has been listed as a reserve participant.
The participants of the tournament were determined based on the rating. The final list will be approved after the places allocated to the continents, the players nominated by the FIDE president, and the chess players invited by the organizers have been determined.
It should be noted that the chess players who take the first two places in the open and women's competitions to be held on September 3-16 will qualify for the Candidates Tournament.
