The participation of 7 Azerbaijani chess players in the "Grand Swiss" tournament to be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, has been confirmed.
"Report" reports that Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Mahammad Muradli, Rauf Mammadov, Aydin Suleymanli, Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva and Ulviyya Fataliyeva will compete in the international competition.
The "Grand Swiss", which will be held according to the Swiss system and will consist of 11 rounds, will feature 172 chess players. 116 of them will participate in the open tournament, and 56 players will participate in the women's tournament. The prize fund of the open tournament is 625 thousand US dollars. In the women's competition, this figure is 230 thousand dollars.
Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Mahammad Muradli, Rauf Mammadov, Aydin Suleymanli will compete in the open tournament. Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva and Ulviyya Fataliyeva will participate in the women's competition.
The chess players who take the first two places in both competitions will qualify for the Candidates Tournament to be held in 2026.
It should be noted that the "Grand Swiss" will be held from September 3 to 16.
