Russian fighter Tagir Ulanbekov has confirmed that UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev may participate in the first UFC tournament in Baku on June 21.
Idman.biz reports that in an interview with Match TV, he said that other members of the team, including Usman Nurmagomedov, will also come to the fight in Azerbaijan.
"Yes, I think Islam will come. Not only him, but other members of the team will also be there. Usman should also come," the athlete said.
Ulanbekov will meet with Kazakhstani Azat Maksum in Baku, who will replace the injured Kedji Horiguchi. Tagir paid special attention to Khabib Nurmagomedov's role in preparing him for the competition.
According to him, the former champion will not only be second in the fight, but is already actively involved in the training process: "He calls, writes, comes to the gym, monitors the preparation. His advice is very important and inspiring."
