The Azerbaijani men's boxing team set a new record for the number of medals at the European Championship. Sport24.az reports that the squad achieved this feat at the competition held in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.
Our boxer Saidcamshid Jafarov (75 kg) secured the 5th medal by qualifying for the semifinals at the European Championship, marking a historic first for our nation. Until now, our athletes had never won more than 4 awards in a single such competition. In 2006 in Plovdiv, and seven years later in Minsk, our representatives had reached the podium four times. This time, securing 5 medals is a new record in the European Championships.
In the national delegation, before Jafarov, Subhan Mamedov (50 kg) and Nabi Isgandarov (70 kg) qualified for the final, Amin Mammadzade (55 kg) for the semifinals, and Mehmed Abdullayev (+90 kg) claimed the bronze medal.
Note that the championship will conclude on September 25.
