"Azerbaijani wrestler Vusal Aliyev (80 kg) lost in the final match of the III stage of the World Series held in Morocco due to a mysterious decision by the referees." Sport24.az reports that this was stated by Oyan Nazariani, head coach of the Azerbaijani national beach wrestling team, in an interview with Report.
He assessed the results of the team members: "Two of our athletes - Vusal Aliyev (80 kg) and Ibrahim Yusubov (90 kg) - participated in the World Series held among adults in Morocco. Vusal started the competition from the play-off stage and qualified for the group. He then advanced to the semi-finals, where his opponent was a Greek athlete. In this match, Vusal was leading 1:0 until the last seconds. Despite dominating the match, the score became 1:1 at the last moment due to a mysterious decision by the referees, and he later faced defeat. However, he won convincingly in the fight for third place. Ibrahim Yusubov started the competition in Group A. Although he won the first two matches, he lost to the Iranian representative in the third. However, Ibrahim Yusubov is currently second in the ranking, and Vusal Aliyev is third."
The expert also spoke about future plans: "The next stage of the World Series will be held in Greece. We will participate in that competition with the same athletes again. The final stage will be held in Alexandria, Egypt in October. This competition will also award ranking points. The final ranking results will also be announced there. Also, our U-17 team will go to the world championship. We will participate in the tournament with 8 boys and 2 girls. For the first time in history, Azerbaijan will be represented by girls in beach wrestling. This will be an important test for us before the Youth Olympic Games to be held in 2026."
It should be noted that Vusal Aliyev (80 kg) won a bronze medal at the World Series held in Casablanca, defeating Frenchman Hugo Couenne. Ibrahim Yusubov (90 kg) took 2nd place in the group and was unable to continue the fight.
