Eldeniz Əzizli, a four-time world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, intends to end his athletic career after the world championship held in Astana, Kazakhstan.
İdman.Biz reports that the 34‑year‑old Azerbaijani wrestler said this in a statement to the World Wrestling Federation (UWW).
Əzizli stated that he wants to become world champion for the fifth time and then retire from professional sport.
Recall that our experienced wrestler successfully advanced to the semifinals in the 55 kg weight class at the world championships.
On his way to the final he met the reigning world champion, Georgian representative Vachtang Lolua. Əzizli defeated his opponent 5:1, securing at least a silver medal.
In the final scheduled for October 25, the Azerbaijani athlete will face Iranian Payam Ahmadi.
This match is of special importance for Əzizli. In the previous world championship he lost to Ahmadi in the semifinals and finished the tournament with a bronze medal.
Thus, the upcoming bout will give Eldəniz Əzizli a chance to take revenge and to finish his career with a fifth world title.
