U-17 World Championship: Bronze medal hope for our Greco-Roman wrestlers

The first world championship of the year in wrestling has started.

Idman.biz reports that Greco-Roman wrestlers were the first to take to the mat in the U-17 category in Athens, the capital of Greece.

Out of the 5 athletes from the Azerbaijani national team who joined the competition, 3 can win a bronze medal at best.

Gurban Majnunov lost to Kazakhstan's Nurdaulet Kumaruli with a score of 0:10 in the 1/8 final.

Nihat Bahmanov won against Armenian Merujan Mkhitaryan with a score of 5:1 and Romanian Patrik Kroitoru with a score of 3:1 and advanced to the 1/4 final. However, he lost to Kazakhstan's Nurali Askara with a score of 0:2 in the 1/4 final.

Huseyn Isgandarov won against Dutchman Mate Van Osa with a score of 5:4, but lost to Armenian Janes Nazaryan with a score of 1:9 in the 1/8 final.

Nijat Yeylagaliyev defeated Greek Stefanos Konstantinos (8:0) and Kazakh Mardanbek Makhkambayev with a full advantage (13:5). However, he lost to Georgian Luka Martiashvili with a "touch" in the 1/4 final.

Rihad Ibrahimli lost to Uzbek Sayidamir Nematov with a score of 0:10 in the qualifying stage.

The opponents of Gurban, Nihat, Huseyn and Nijat are in the semi-finals. If they reach the final, our representatives will have a consolation match tomorrow.
