Nurlan Aghazadeh (70 kg), a member of the Azerbaijani U-20 national freestyle wrestling team, dedicated the bronze medal he won at the World Championship to his father.
"Report" reports that the athlete himself stated this in a statement to the press service of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation.
He commented on his performance at the competition held in Samokov, Bulgaria:
"Although I participated in such a prestigious competition for the first time in my career, my goal was a gold medal. I lost to the Moldovan athlete in the semi-finals purely due to my inexperience. A certain amount of excitement also played a role. I also lacked some endurance. But I didn't lose heart. I won a bronze medal by defeating the Georgian wrestler. I dedicate this result to the person who has put the most effort into me – my father. I would like to thank my personal coach Ashraf Aliyev, our senior coach Arif Abdullayev, as well as Rovshan Hajiyev and Nazim Alicanov, Niyazi and Vusal muellim".
Another bronze medalist, Vasif Baghirov (57 kg), said that he went to Bulgaria to win a gold medal:
"The competition went very well. I went to become a champion. I was awarded a bronze medal. I lost in the semi-finals because I couldn't build the right tactics against my Indian opponent. Hopefully, I will participate successfully in the upcoming competitions. I will represent my country properly. The senior national championship is coming up. I will do my best and try to become a champion".
Yusif Dursunov (125 kg), another wrestler who climbed to the third step of the podium, said that he would draw conclusions from his mistakes:
"I went to Bulgaria for the championship. Unfortunately, I lost to my Iranian opponent in the semi-finals due to the last point principle. The opponent had analyzed my meetings well, he knew my wrestling style. Third place in the World Championship is also a good result. I will work on my mistakes and I believe that I will show higher results in the future".
It should be noted that Azerbaijani freestyle wrestlers won 3 bronze medals at the World Championship.
