The national Greco-Roman wrestling team's training camp in Goygol continues.
Idman.Biz reports that the preparation process, which started on January 14, focuses more on physical training.
Head coach Mohammad Bana made a statement about the progress of the training camp, upcoming competitions and plans.
"We have started our training camps. The first stage is acquaintance, then planning. The period until the European Championship to be held on April 20 is the first stage of our preparation, and there are various competitions in between.
The rating tournament in Albania, the U23 European Championship and finally the senior European Championship, which will start on April 20. During this period, we plan to hold 5-6 training camps. After that, various competitions and training camps will continue. With God's help, we will reach the highest form by the World Championship.
Now is the beginning of the work, and this is more for the coaching staff and wrestlers to get to know each other. As a result, our training process is aimed at increasing the level of preparation day by day so that, God willing, we will be fully prepared for various competitions.
Azerbaijan is one of the top 2-3 countries in the world in Greco-Roman wrestling. It is an honor for me to accept the position of head coach of this team. I have known Azerbaijani wrestling for many years. Azerbaijani athletes have always had high technical quality, but this technical skill also requires physical preparation.
Physical and technical preparation is good, but there are some subtle details. If we add psychological preparation, these 3 preparations must form a strong chain so that the coaching staff, the federation leadership and the wrestlers can succeed as a team in various competitions.
The first competition we will participate in is the rating tournament in Albania. God willing, more than 20 wrestlers from those participating in the national championship will compete there. Then we will participate in other competitions during the year.
We have divided our goals for this year into two stages. We are currently starting with getting acquainted and preparing. The European Championship will be a relatively low peak point of preparation for us. God willing, we will reach the main peak form at the World Championship, so that we can all together achieve great success for Azerbaijani wrestling," said the head coach.
