The U-20 Azerbaijan Championship in Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling kicked off today at the Ganja Sports Palace. Idman.Biz reports that the opening ceremony of the event began with the national anthem being played.
In the official part of the sports event, the Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov, Deputy Head of the Ganja City Executive Power Adil Tagiyev, Bureau Member of the United World Wrestling (UWW) and Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation Namig Aliyev, as well as the Secretary General of the Federation Parvin Piriyev spoke. During the speeches, the work done in the direction of the development of wrestling in the city of Ganja, the high-level organization of various local and international competitions were emphasized. At the same time, it was noted that holding Azerbaijani championships in accordance with the UWW competition format is important in terms of wrestlers adapting to the international arena and demonstrating their potential.
The opening ceremony continued with a show program.
The ceremony ended with a video message to the fans from Togrul Asgarov, a graduate of the Ganja wrestling school and Olympic champion.
On the first day of the competition, the names of the finalists in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight categories of 55, 63, 72, 82 and 97 kg were clarified.
The final pairs are as follows: Nicat Iskandarli (Sumgayit, "Neftchi") and Emin Javadli (ASOIU) at 55 kg, Tural Ahmadov (ASOIU) and Emrah Emrahov (Masalli) at 63 kg, Yusif Ahmadli (Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sabirabad) and Kamran Rajabli ("Neftchi") at 72 kg, Nijat Yeylagaliyev (Absheron, Ministry of Internal Affairs) and Zaur Huseynli (Absheron) at 82 kg, and Mahir Gurbanli ("Neftchi") and Rihad Ibrahimli (Sumgayit, "Neftchi") at 97 kg.
It should be noted that the U-20 Azerbaijan Championship will last until February 7.
