Famous Azerbaijani sambo wrestler, European and world champion, multiple winner of international tournaments, Sevila Muradova, is going through a difficult period in her life.
The athlete told Idman.biz in a statement that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The news was completely unexpected for her:
"When the doctor told me this, I was in incredible shock. It was as if the ground was running from under my feet. It never occurred to me that I could have such a problem. No one in our family or relatives has ever faced this disease. I was expecting everything, but not cancer. Such diseases are mainly caused by stress and nutrition, not genetics...".
Although Sevila Muradova ended her professional career 15 years ago, sports have always been a part of her life:
"I have had many injuries, including a brain hemorrhage. But I still tried to stay in shape and went to the gym until last year. Moreover, I continue to follow other athletes. It's in my blood! I always rejoice in the victories of my country."
Currently, S.Muradova is undergoing a six-month chemotherapy course. However, the treatment will not end there - the athlete is facing a long-term battle with cancer. She approaches this trial with high spirits:
"It used to be very difficult, especially waiting for the results of the tests was painful. But I pulled myself together and said: "Everything will be fine. I am a champion of life and I will remain so." Now I take the diagnosis calmly and believe that we will defeat it. The doctor said that there is no incurable disease in this period. The main thing is the person himself and his state of mind, the rest is the work of specialists."
The athlete is supported by her friends. She decided to hide the diagnosis from her mother, because she is afraid that this news will be mentally difficult for her:
"This can break her mentally. Her health is more important to me than my own."
Sevila Muradova says that the treatment is expensive for her:
"Cancer-related expenses are not covered by insurance. One chemotherapy session costs 1,200 manats. After the course, there will be re-examinations and then injections called 'precise target'. As far as I know, one injection costs 500 manats."
The athlete needs 4,800 manats for four chemotherapy courses. Therefore, she asks her compatriots for financial support:
"I would be very happy for your support. I cannot finance this treatment alone. I am an administrator in a cafe, but I have reduced my working hours due to my health. It is also not known whether I will be able to continue working after a few chemotherapies."
