Azerbaijani representatives, who won gold medals at the U-17 beach wrestling world championship held in Katerini, Greece, showed determination and character.
Oyan Nazariani, the head coach of the national team, told "Report" about this.
The expert stated that the competition is very important: "The Youth Summer Olympic Games will be held in Senegal next year. This was a test before that tournament. More than 170 athletes from 26 countries competed in Greece. For the first time, female representatives of Azerbaijan also competed in beach wrestling. We selected age groups for the tournament so that they could also participate in the Youth Olympics. We brought athletes one year younger than the age group at this year's world championship. This tournament was a test for them."
The head coach also spoke about the athletes' performance: "Our wrestlers who won gold medals showed determination and character. In beach wrestling, boys compete in four weight categories and girls in four weight categories. It is a good result that two of the eight gold awards came to Azerbaijan. But we always want better achievements. We hope that we will represent our country properly at the Youth Olympics next year. Other athletes who could not place this time were also one step away from the medal. They could not be among the winners due to slight mistakes."
It should be noted that Ulviyya Musayeva (55 kg) and Nihad Suleymanli (80 kg) won gold medals at the U-17 world championship. Elgun Karimli (90 kg) was satisfied with a bronze medal.
