At the U-23 World Championship held in Novi Sad, Serbia, the Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestling team won two gold and one bronze medal, which is undoubtedly considered a success for the coaching staff led by Aleksandr Tarakanov.
"Idman.Biz" asked Aleksandr Petrovich to comment on the performances of his trainees:
"We expected such a result from the boys - and the wrestlers we trusted demonstrated it. Ziya Babashov was in good shape last season as well, and now he showed that he is fully ready by winning a confident victory in the 63 kg weight category. Elmir Aliyev (55 kg) was the winner of the U-23 European Championship at only 20 years old, and this time he lived up to our expectations. Although he won only a bronze medal at the European Championship last year, we believed that he would become a champion this time - and he did!", said Aleksandr Tarakanov.
"In addition, we were a little disappointed by Ruslan Nurullayev (72 kg). He lost to the Iranian athlete in the match for reaching the final - otherwise, we would have had three golds! We also expected him to win "gold", but due to a technical error, Ruslan could not reach the final and was satisfied with only a bronze medal, although he deserved a higher result," the head coach concluded.
