Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has commented on the club's decision not to extend his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
Speaking to The Sun, the Belgian footballer said:
"It was a bit of a shock. I didn't receive any offers from them throughout the year, and the club made its decision. Of course, I was a bit surprised, but I had to come to terms with it. To be honest, I still think I can perform well, but I understand that clubs have to make decisions."
It is worth noting that on April 4, the 33-year-old midfielder announced that he would be leaving Manchester City due to his contract expiring at the end of the season. On April 6, Manchester City's head coach Josep Guardiola stated that the decision for De Bruyne to leave belonged to the club, not the player.
