The grand "Sumo Expo 2025" event was held at the "Wase Exhibition Hall" in Osaka, Japan.
Idman.biz reports that professional athletes and official representatives from only five countries out of the 158 participating in the "Expo" - Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Mongolia, Senegal, and Japan - came together at this magnificent event.
The main goal of the event was to promote the Sumo World Championship to be held in Baku in 2026 and to increase global interest in this competition. Our country was represented at this prestigious exhibition by the Japan Martial Arts and Culture Association. The Vice President of the Association, Ulvi Agamirov, spoke at the exhibition, presented the official PR video of the championship, introduced the mascot AZUMO to the public, and invited everyone to Baku.
Also, Gursel Ismayilzade, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Japan, Avaz Muradov, the director of the Azerbaijan Pavilion at Osaka Expo, and his team also participated in the event. One of the notable moments was the participation of Cavid Yusifov, a member of the Azerbaijani sumo team, in the sumo championship held among the 12 most prestigious universities in Japan. He defeated his opponent, who was the champion of Japanese universities, in his first match in the open weight category, and represented our country with great pride.
"Sumo Expo 2025" has been an indispensable platform for expanding international relations in both sports and culture. The event made a significant contribution to further strengthening the position of Azerbaijani sports on the world stage.
