A significant project aimed at developing cycling in the regions is being launched within the framework of cooperation between the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation (AzVİF) and the Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
İdman.biz reports that the pilot project to be implemented within the framework of cooperation will initially cover eight regions of the country.
From September 2025, cycling sections will be created in sports schools under the Ministry of Science and Education in the Gabala, Guba, Agdash, Agstafa, Goranboy, Tovuz, Goygol and Gadabay regions.
Speaking at a meeting organized at the Republican Velodrome for the presentation of the project, the 1st Vice-President of AzVİF, Sahib Alakbarov, said that this initiative is important in terms of organizing professional cycling training for children and adolescents in the regions, identifying promising athletes from an early age and properly directing their potential. He said that the departments will be provided with modern equipment and bicycles, and special trainings will be organized in Baku in August for the coaches who will work there.
Nilufar Rahimova, Head of the Sector for the Organization of Extracurricular Activities of the State Agency for Preschool and General Education under the Ministry of Science and Education, and Lala Zeynalova, the leading specialist of the sector, made a detailed presentation on the main goals and expectations of the project, stating that this initiative will serve the physical and moral development of schoolchildren, increase interest in sports, and direct them to a more active and healthy life.
It was also emphasized at the meeting that it is planned to further expand the scope of the project and cover other regions in the future. This approach is a very important step in terms of the sustainable development of cycling in the country.
