The Azerbaijani national weightlifting team has returned home after competing in the European Championship.
Idman.biz reports that our team was greeted with great fanfare at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Weightlifting Federation, Firdovsi Umudov, as well as other members of the sports community, young athletes, and media representatives. During the reception, the head coach of our national team, Makhti Makkaev, and the winner of the European Championship, Isa Rustamov, answered journalists' questions.
Isa Rustamov: "We prepared very seriously for this competition. When we went to the European Championship, a goal was set: to take a place on the podium. The federation leadership created the highest level of conditions for our preparation. We saw the benefits of the training process we conducted in Goygol at the European Championship. I have always said that this is not just my success. Everyone in the team, starting with the federation leadership, has a share in achieving this result. My goal is to take a place on the podium and wave our flag in future competitions. I express my gratitude to everyone who took the trouble to come and meet us."
Makhti Makkaev: "As you know, until 3 months ago, Isa Rustamov competed in the 73 kg weight category. When he was in this weight, he competed in group B. We conducted analyzes regarding the change of his weight and submitted a report to the management. We thought that Isa could perform better in the 67 kg weight category, and that's what happened. If conditions are created for the team, then the result does not take long. I would like to thank our Federation President Kamran Nabizade and Vice-President Firdovsi Umudov. We are also grateful to the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their constant support. We will try to achieve the goals set in future competitions as well. We have potential teenagers and young people. I am sure that athletes of European and world level will emerge from among them."
It should be noted that Isa Rustamov won 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in the team.
