Gunel Badalova: Significant progress has been made in the development of winter sports in Azerbaijan

Significant successes have been achieved in the development of winter sports in Azerbaijan in the last few years.

Idman.biz reports with reference to media.az that this was stated by Gunel Badalova, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation, at the panel session on "Development of Winter Sports and Future Prospects in Mountain Resorts of Turkic-Speaking Countries" within the framework of the I Summit Meeting of the Union of Ski Resorts of Turkic-Speaking Countries.

"Azerbaijan's first right to host the World Cup in Ski Mountaineering is just one of the future successes. The Winter Sports Federation was established not only to promote winter sports, but also to develop infrastructure, support athletes and increase public interest in these sports. Our role is to guide, encourage and support talent, create conditions for sustainable progress and global development. We have made significant progress since joining the International Ski Mountaineering Federation in October 2022. In that year, we created a national ski mountaineering team consisting of children and adult athletes," Badalova said.

It should be noted that the World Ski Mountaineering Championship is scheduled to be held from February 28 to March 7, 2027 at the "Shahdag" Tourism Center. Also in 2026, the European Ski Mountaineering Championship and the World Cup will be organized. The European Championship is planned to be held on March 4-8, 2026, and the World Cup on March 6-8.
