An unusual incident involving a Swiss fan in Italy has attracted media attention.
Idman.Biz reports, citing the "Myach Production" Telegram channel, that in 2004, Rolff Bantle, a "Basel" club fan, went to Milan to support his favorite team on the road.
After the "Inter" - "Basel" match (4:1), he went to the toilet at the "San Siro" stadium, but could not find his way out afterwards. The team bus left without waiting for him.
R. Bantle had only 20 euros and 15 Swiss francs on him. He did not have his phone or documents with him. As a result, he could not return to Switzerland and was forced to stay in Italy.
In the first weeks, he used a sleeping bag to sleep and was fed with the help of local students. He later settled in the Badjo district of Milan, worked in construction and used public showers. In Switzerland, he was searched for as a missing person. But Rolff later stated that he did not want to return to his homeland because he was "enjoying the taste of freedom."
His story ended by chance. 10 years later, Rolff fell and broke his femur and was hospitalized. During treatment, it turned out that he had neither insurance nor Italian citizenship. The doctors contacted the Swiss consulate. After that, the fan was returned to his homeland and placed in a nursing home in Basel.
