Three more people have been detained in Azerbaijan as part of a large-scale investigation into cigarette smuggling. According to Sport24.az, ship captain Elshan Ahmadov, sailor Amid Sayilov and mechanic Elchin, who were wanted in a criminal case investigated by the Main Department for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General, were detained at the airport on December 16. By a court decision, a preventive measure of arrest was chosen against them.
According to the investigation materials, the detainees are employees of "RR Caspi" LLC. They are accused of delivering smuggled cigarettes to a berth created in Alat settlement by ship and loading them onto 3 trucks from there. It is reported that the ship used in smuggling also belongs to "RR Caspi" LLC.
The accused are charged under Articles 206.3.2, 213-1.2.1 and 213-1.2.3 of the Criminal Code.
One of the interesting points is that the names of "Səmayə Co LTD" LLC and "Səmayə Logistic" LLC are also mentioned in the investigation in the criminal case. "Səmayə Co LTD" LLC belongs to Zaur Akhundov, the president of the Azerbaijan Futsal Federation and the Nakhchivan Football Federation.
According to preliminary estimates, the amount of damage to the state is more than 2 million manats.
It should be reminded that earlier in this criminal case, persons holding positions in the Coast Guard of the State Border Service - department head Vusal Sadigov and department supervisor were also detained and preventive measures were chosen against them.
The investigation is ongoing.
