The World Badminton Championship has started in Paris, the capital of France.
İdman.biz reports that our country is represented for the first time in the World Championship with 6 athletes in 4 categories under the leadership of head coach Morteza Validarvi.
Edi Reski Dvichayo, a participant of the Tokyo and Paris Olympics and the leader of our national badminton team, started the World Championship with a victory. Edi defeated Japanese badminton player Koki Watanabe, who is 19th in the world ranking in the men's singles competition – 2:0 (21:19, 21:18). Our badminton player will face Indonesian representative Jonatan Christie in the 1/16 finals.
Our other badminton player, Diki Pangestu, lost to Croatian badminton player Aria Dinata with a score of 1:2 (16:21, 21:16, 14:21) in the men's singles competition.
In the men's doubles competition, the Agil Gabilov-Diki Pangestu tandem lost to Singaporean athletes Junsuke Kubo-Wesley Koh with a score of 0:2 (9:21, 13:21) in the first match.
In the women's singles competition, Keisha Fatima Zahra will face Brazilian Juliana Vieira in the 1/32 finals.
In the mixed doubles category, the Jahid Alhasanov-Hajar Nuriyeva tandem will face German badminton players Malik Bourakkadi-Leona Michalski in the 1/32 finals.
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani delegation at the World Championship is represented by Secretary General Ramil Hajiyev.
