I didn't expect the Olympic medal to be of such poor quality.
This was stated in an interview with "Report" by Azerbaijani boxer Alfonso Dominquez (92 kg), who won a silver medal at the Summer Olympic Games held in Paris, the capital of France.
He, like others, complained about the quality of the medal awarded at the tournament:
"Because I felt that the quality of the medal started to deteriorate in the last 2 months. The color was fading. It's a very poor quality medal. Other athletes have also faced this. If possible, I would like it to be returned."
It should be noted that Azerbaijani athletes won 7 medals at the Paris Olympics. Judokas Hidayat Heydarov (73 kg) and Zelim Kotsoev (100 kg) climbed to the highest step of the podium. In addition to Alfonso Dominquez, taekwondo fighter Gashim Magomedov (58 kg) won a silver medal, losing only in the final. Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg), and freestyle wrestlers Giorgi Meshvildishvili (125 kg) and Magomedkhan Magomedov (97 kg) won bronze awards.
Except for H. Heydarov and M. Magomedov, the awards of the other five have lost their quality.
