Elnara Musayeva, Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation (ACF), assessed the results of the national road cycling championship.
The official of the organization gave an interview to "Report" about this.
She said that about 120 athletes participated in the competition in total:
"The Azerbaijan Road Cycling Championship is the most important competition held during the year. According to the rules of the International Cycling Union, this championship must be held at the end of June. This competition is organized at this time all over the world. About 120 athletes from different age categories participated in the championship. The competition was organized in the Khizi region, and both the hot weather conditions and the difficulty of the route required great determination from the athletes. On the other hand, this championship helped to identify talented and high-potential athletes."
The ACF official spoke about the interesting moments during the competition:
"The competition was remembered for its intense struggle. During the group race of young cyclists, one of the 4 athletes who broke away and went ahead faced a problem. Instead of taking advantage of this opportunity to gain speed and distance themselves, the others waited for him. These are unwritten ethical rules in sports and an action in accordance with the principles of "fair play". It is very important to ensure safety on the road during cycling. Safety was ensured at a high level. Therefore, we express our gratitude to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Of course, we are very grateful to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the organization and comprehensive support."
E. Musayeva emphasized that cyclists will go to international competitions:
"Our youth team will participate in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Macedonia, and our youth team will participate in the European Track Championship in Portugal."
