Coshgun Aliyev, who competed in judo in the -60 kg weight category, showed consistently high results on the first day of the competition. He won against South Korean athlete Choi Junho in the 1/8 finals, Croatian Tonzetic Josip in the 1/4 finals, and Dutch representative Westerhof Albert Gerhardua Hendrik in the semi-finals, advancing to the finals.
