The victory of Azerbaijani judokas - Balabay Agayev, who competes in the 60 kg weight category, and Ruslan Pashayev, who competes in the 66 kg weight category, at the Grand Prix competition held in Guadalajara, Mexico, was both joyful and unexpected. Balabay's success is particularly noteworthy, as he has been losing in almost all the tournaments he has participated in recently.
Idman.biz learned the opinion of Rashad Rasul, Executive Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation (ACF), regarding the performance of the winners:
"We have always given Balabay a chance, but he has not always been able to justify this opportunity. Unlike other categories, we lack stability in the 60 and 66 kg weight categories, and there is no athlete who is clearly number one. In the 60 kg weight category, Balabay sometimes performs well, sometimes Turan Bayramov, and sometimes Ahmad Yusifov. The situation is the same in the 66 kg category - Yashar Najafov shines once, Ruslan Pashayev once. But we give everyone a chance, and none of our judokas can say that they have not been given a chance to show themselves," said Rasul.
