The composition of the women's judo team of Azerbaijan has expanded.
According to İdman.Biz, referring to the press service of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation, two new athletes will soon debut in the team - Alina Kugayeva, who competes in the 70 kg weight category, and Madina Kaysinova, who competes in the +78 kg weight category.
The Federation stated that this step is the result of selection work:
"We watched various tournaments held in Russia for a long time, selected judokas, invited them to Azerbaijan, consulted with the head coaches of our teams, and finally settled our choice on Alina and Madina. This primarily aims to increase competition in the 70 kg weight category. Secondly, after Irina Kindzerska, we did not have a competitive judoka in the super heavyweight category. Finally, thirdly, this decision was made in the interests of the team, in order to show better results in mixed team competitions. We hope that after such strengthening, the situation will change for the better."
It should be noted that 22-year-old Alina Kugayeva took third place in the last national championship (Sudaba Agayeva was the champion). 27-year-old Madina Kaysinova won the tournament without serious difficulty. Both athletes are Ossetian by nationality and are graduates of the Russian judo school.
