The European Judo Union (EJU) highly appreciated the organization of the European Cup among juniors held in Ganja.
This was stated to "Report" by Natig Bagirov, advisor to the President of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation.
He said that the participating countries and the EJU were satisfied with the organization:
"They stated that the tournament was held at the highest level. They were satisfied with both the hospitality and organization, as well as the management of the referees. This is gratifying for us. The competition took place in the Ganja Sports Palace. This is one of the most beautiful sports facilities in our country."
N. Bagirov also touched upon the performance of Azerbaijani judokas:
"Our team won 24 medals. This is not our last competition. The European Cup was of great importance. We consider this a selection competition. There will be other tournaments in the future. Later, a team will be formed for the European and world championships. The team did not perform badly, we won 3 gold, 6 silver and 16 bronze medals. Our athletes have great potential. They could have performed even better. However, this is currently a transitional period for judokas and they are not in full shape."
The ACF official recalled that the European Cup is held annually in the regions:
"We have previously organized such competitions in Goygol and Guba. The Federation is working on the development of judo in the regions."
It should be reminded that Azerbaijani junior judokas took second place in the medal standings at the European Cup with 24 awards (3 gold, 6 silver, 16 bronze). Kazakhstan took first place with 26 medals (9 gold, 6 silver, 11 bronze).
