An incident occurred between team members Tuncay Shamil and Aslan Kotsoyev on the eve of the national junior judo team's trip to North Macedonia to participate in the European Cup. Sport24.az reports that the Azerbaijan Judo Federation has issued a statement about this.
It was reported that both athletes were removed from the competition and the matter was investigated by the Federation's Disciplinary Committee: "The Disciplinary Committee held meetings with the athletes, reviewed their written explanations and existing facts (audio recordings). At the same time, the committee evaluated the athletes' behavior and penalties received so far, as well as the proposals of the national team leadership.
The Committee decided to indefinitely remove Tuncay Shamil from the Azerbaijan National Team due to his actions contrary to the Ethical Code of the International Judo Federation, the Code of Ethics of the Azerbaijan Judo Federation, and judo values in general, and to prohibit him from participating in international competitions and training camps as part of the national team.
It should be noted that Tuncay Shamil has repeatedly violated internal rules and has been removed from international and local competitions.
The athlete's morality, patience, and discipline are of utmost importance, and sports potential is formed on these values. The Azerbaijan Judo Federation emphasizes that it will continue to adhere to its fundamental principles and the judo code of honor in the future."
