Azerbaijan's national sambo team will be represented by 15 athletes at the European Youth Championship to be held in Novi Sad on April 21-23 this year.
According to Yaqub Abdullayev of Idman.Biz, the head coach of the youth judo team, the team will include Tuncay Shamil, a former judoka who was disqualified for 10 years last year by the Azerbaijan Judo Federation for violating disciplinary rules, and a multiple winner and medalist of international tournaments among juniors and youth.
"Among the 15 athletes going to Serbia is 20-year-old Tuncay Shamil. He will represent our team in the 98 kg weight category. Tuncay deserved this trip with his results - he became the national champion among juniors and took third place in the adult championship. He is currently in excellent shape and is one of our main hopes for the title of European champion," said Yaqub Abdullayev.
